Neck Pain
Getting to the cause.

Neck pain is one of the most common reasons people seek chiropractic care - and one of the most effectively treated. We help resolve the underlying causes, not just manage symptoms.

Understanding Your Pain

Why your neck
deserves attention.

Modern life represents a significant challenge to the cervical spine. We are designed to thrive with regular, varied movement - yet our sedentary work roles, reliance on technology, and hours of device use have created postures and loading patterns the body was never built for.

Neck pain can arise from a broad range of causes - from the gradual accumulation of postural stress at a desk, to specific traumas like a car accident or sports injury. The duration and cause of your pain influences the approach needed to resolve it.

Some neck pain settles on its own with rest and simple home care. But when poor spinal function is left unaddressed over time, the joints can begin to degrade - leading to conditions like osteoarthritis or disc disease that become progressively harder to manage the longer they've been present.

Symptoms

How neck pain
shows up.

Neck pain rarely stays in the neck. Because the cervical spine is so deeply connected to the nervous system, dysfunction here can produce symptoms throughout the head, face, arms, and beyond.

Stiffness & Reduced Range
Difficulty turning your head - especially first thing in the morning or after prolonged sitting.

Headaches from the Neck
Cervicogenic headaches - originating in the neck joints - are among the most common but least recognised headache types.

Muscle Tension & Tightness

Persistent tightness across the neck, shoulders, and upper back - the muscles working overtime to compensate for joint dysfunction.

Referred Pain into the Arm
Pins and needles, numbness, or aching down the arm - often indicating pressure on a cervical nerve root.

Dizziness or Balance Issues
The upper cervical spine plays a significant role in balance and spatial orientation. Dysfunction here can contribute to dizziness.

Sleep Disruption
Difficulty finding a comfortable position, waking with stiffness, or morning headaches all have a common cervical spine connection.

When to Seek Care

Signs it's time
to get it assessed.

Most neck pain doesn't arise from serious injuries - but from mechanical problems in the joints, muscles, and soft tissues of the cervical spine. Some presentations warrant closer attention, and benefit from prompt care to prevent longer-term issues from developing.

Seek immediate care if:

Neck pain follows a significant trauma - car accident, fall, or contact sport injury

There is any suspicion of fracture or instability

Neck pain is accompanied by fever, vomiting, visual changes or new symptoms you've not experienced before.

For chronic or recurring neck pain, we recommend assessment sooner rather than later. Early intervention minimises the chance of the problem becoming entrenched - or leading to more significant degeneration over time.

Also worth assessing if:

Headaches accompany the pain

If neck pain and headaches are occurring together, the neck can be involved.

Symptoms extend into the arms

Referred pain, tingling, or numbness down the arm suggests nerve involvement that warrants thorough assessment.

Dizziness or difficulty concentrating

The cervical spine's connection to balance and neurological function means these symptoms often have a structural cause.

Pain keeps coming back

Recurring episodes almost always indicate an underlying imbalance that temporary relief hasn't addressed.

Stress & Anxiety

Modern life is busy in ways our bodies weren't designed for - we live on edge, almost predicting the next stress just around the corner. Chiropractic care helps regulate the nervous system so it can do what it was built to - recover, adapt and thrive.

Poor Sleep

Spinal problems and nervous system imbalances are common contributors to sleep difficulties.

Headaches

Tension headaches are one of the most direct physical expressions of chronic stress in the body.
